Microdermabrasion is one of our most popular treatments and is a cosmetic technique that uses mechanical exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells. It is a non-invasive procedure performed by a trained skin care professional. Its aim is to produce smoother, younger looking skin. It is also used for skin problems such as acne, blackheads/whiteheads, sun damage, and fine lines. Microdermabrasion should be painless and the results can be seen in just one visit.
During a treatment, super-fine crystals are sent from a receptacle on the microdermabrasion machine through a tube, and to hand-held which the therapist passes over the skin. The treatment uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin – this removal is called exfoliation. The skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients. The crystals and exfoliated skin particles are simultaneously vacuumed away through the same wand. Used crystals are discarded after the procedure.

The results are instant. Prevents early signs of ageing and does not usually require preparation prior to treatment. The treatment can be used on all skin types, young and old, male and female with no recovery time needed post treatment. The vacuum and crystal controls are very flexible which permit tailor-made treatments that are non-invasive and pain-free. Removing the dead skin aids in the penetration of skin care products by up to 50% and make-up goes on much more smoothly. The long term benefits of multiple procedures are accumulative and can be remarkable.
This depends on your skin and what results you want to achieve. Generally, the best results are seen after 5 to 6 treatments. These are spaced out, usually between 14-28 days apart.
A session takes up to 30 minutes depending on the condition of the skin.
Microdermabrasion carries few side effects or complications, however after treatment skin will be much more sensitive to sun exposure. It is best to keep out of the sun and wear sunscreen at all times after the procedure. Most clients notice a marked improvement in the texture of their skin immediately after the first treatment, however, some clients may experience dryness, sun sensitivity, and temporary bruising in the area of skin treated. One of the disadvantages of dermabrasion is that it can exfoliate skin only 15-25 micrometers deep, which means that it cannot be used for deep wrinkles.
